NHL player Jason Zucker and his wife, Carly Zucker, have recently announced the launch of their new investment firm called Sixteen Ventures. The firm, which is based in Edina, Minnesota, represents the Zuckers’ individual investments and has already invested in five portfolio companies and non-profits. The company invests in various industry verticals, including fintech, healthcare, food and beverage, charities, and non-profits.
Jason Zucker, who plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins, said in a press release by Minneapolis-based e-commerce company Artisan Venture Lab that he and his wife are involved in various business ventures and felt it was time to centralize their efforts and formally establish the Sixteen Ventures brand. The firm was founded last year and recently announced publicly in the press release.
The investment portfolio of Sixteen Ventures includes an Ireland brewing company, a dental-services organization, Minneapolis-based social sports betting startup BettorEdge, and two charitable organizations, Alltroo and Givel6. The latter two organizations were co-founded by Jason Zucker himself.
Zucker said in an interview that he seeks to have an involved interest in the company he invests in, adding that the more he believes in the company, the more he invests. He declined to disclose investment amounts, but said they vary per company.
BettorEdge Co-founder Greg Kajewski said common charitable interests brought BettorEdge and Sixteen Ventures together. Since BettorEdge became a portfolio company of Sixteen Ventures in February, Jason Zucker has helped provide advice and create opportunities for the startup.
AVL’s involvement in Sixteen Ventures is also tied to charitable connections. AVL Co-founder and President Kevin Zinniel is an advisory board member for the Masonic Children’s Hospital, which houses the Zucker Family Suite and Broadcast Studio. Developing the Zucker’s investment firm site marked the latest collaboration between the two, after AVL helped launch Givel6’s website in 2021.
