Diverse AI, a newly established not-for-profit organization focused on championing diversity in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), is set to launch in Scotland on June 28th at CodeClan’s main campus in Edinburgh. Following its successful launch in London, this membership-driven initiative aims to support and nurture diversity in AI through volunteer-driven efforts.
In collaboration with CodeClan, the event welcomes individuals interested in contributing to the development of an equitable AI future in Scotland. The launch aligns with the Scottish AI Alliance’s goals, with Steph Wright, Head of the Scottish AI Alliance, actively involved in ensuring Scotland becomes a leader in the ethical, inclusive, and trustworthy use of AI.
Recognizing the well-documented lack of diversity in the AI and tech industry, Wright highlights the importance of involving a wide range of individuals in AI development to ensure its benefits are accessible to all. Emphasizing the potential of AI to positively transform society, Diverse AI seeks to drive change by fostering a more diverse AI landscape.
Diverse AI’s initiatives include a Community Empowerment program, which begins with engaging the LGBTQ+ community, an Education program featuring an AI resource hub and an AI literacy initiative, and a Research program focused on developing an implementable framework for user-centered and inclusive deployment of AI algorithms.
During the launch event, Loral Quinn, CEO of CodeClan, will share her journey as a female tech-for-good founder. CodeClan, an organization committed to empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds to enter the tech industry, strongly supports the growth of Scotland’s digital workforce.
With the evening event providing a platform for Diverse AI’s co-founder, Steph Wright, to outline the organization’s vision for an inclusive AI future, the launch represents an important step towards fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the field of AI.
