LG Uplus Corp., South Korea’s third-largest mobile carrier, has made a groundbreaking move by unveiling the industry’s first video ad created using generative artificial intelligence (AI).
The ad, promoting the launch of the Uth Youth Plan—a new mobile phone plan catering to individuals in their 20s—incorporates generative AI for the creation of the scenario, images, videos, and audio. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first time such an ad has been produced with generative AI sources.
LG Uplus employed its AI-dedicated organization, CDO, and their advanced ixi technology to generate the essential components of the ad. The generative AI played a crucial role in crafting a comprehensive text scenario, while the visual AI seamlessly produced and edited images and videos for each scene. Additionally, the audio AI contributed by providing voiceover narration, completing the immersive ad experience.
The production process involved utilizing approximately 300 AI-generated sources. By harnessing the power of AI, the cost of creating the ad was reduced to around a quarter of a typical advertisement, and the production period was shortened by about one-third.
The ad can be viewed on LG Uplus’s various SNS (social networking service) channels, including YouTube and Instagram. This innovative use of generative AI by LG Uplus sets a new standard in the advertising industry and showcases the company’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology to deliver captivating and cost-effective marketing campaigns.
